Multi-Scale Analysis of Textile Composite:

Multi-scale predictive capabilities are developed to meet design objectives and reducing number of tests, which must be carried out at any step of the design process to identify the “overall” optimum design solution.

We have developed a theoretical model capable of:

  • computing the material properties on one level using information from other levels.
  • describing the system or the material using particular approaches at each level .
  • addressing different phenomena over specific length scales.

Multiscale Modelling of polycrystalline materials:

Multi-scale homogenization methods provide the advantage of modelling a specific material at different scales simultaneously. At scales where the mechanical behaviour is unknown due to the complexity of the material’s structure, no constitutive law is required since this can be defined at smaller scales where the behaviour may be known.

We have pioneered two-scale dynamic models where the two scale continuously inform each other to simulate Material degradation, Crack initiation, Crack growth and Crack coalescence. We model fatigue failure of structures from the initial stage of material degradation and micro-cracking to macro crack initiation and growth leading to final failure.
